PROSPECTUS FOR ADMISSION EXAMS FOR STUDY PROGRAM

The goal of the study is to obtain a university professional qualification in the field of film and television visual effects.
Study is full-time and lasts 3 years.
It ends with a colloquial exam on History of world cinematography, Theory of visual effects, Theory and practice of selected graphic and compositing programs and defense of a practical bachelor's thesis. The graduate receives the title of "bachelor" and is professionally prepared to carry out professional practice.
 
The basic conditions for accepting an applicant for a bachelor's degree are:
completed high school education with high school diploma
successful completion of the entrance exam
English as a starting point for self-study of foreign professional texts
demonstrable talent
 
Until  7. January 2015 will send   applicants recommended (postmark no later than 7/1/2015) to the address FTF VŠMU, Visual Effects Studio, Svoradova 2, 813 01 Bratislava,  the following compulsory works (in a separate envelope, not together with the application):
Homework:

  1. Color versions of the photographic image. The applicant himself photographs the object of his interest, architecture, model, landscape, etc. and creates 10 color versions with any computer technique. It thus presents its idea for different daylight and atmospheres. (Help: day, night, morning, evening, sunny, cloudy, moonlight, rain, snow, rainbow, artificial light in various colors and combinations, can use the principles of coloring ....). The recommended program for implementation is Adobe Photoshop. The minimum resolution is HD resolution. For the purposes of entrance exams, this group of photos is also submitted in printed form with the longer side up to 30 cm, minimum 18 cm. In addition to the printed form, this work is submitted in electronic form, "jpg" format, on a presentation DVD together with other works.
  2.  Masking. The student submits a photo, which includes inserting the entire figure from one photo taken by him into the environment of another photo taken by him. Photos are in "psd" format, all working layers are preserved in them, and in "jpg" format. The recommended program for implementation is Adobe Photoshop. The minimum resolution is in HD. The work is submitted in electronic form on a presentation DVD together with other works.
  3.  Vectorization of a photo. Using a program designed for vector graphics, the applicant converts a photographed portrait of a person (D, PD, PC) into vector form. Photos are in "ai, cdr ..." format and all working layers are preserved in them. For comparison, the applicant submits both the source and the resulting photo. Recommended programs: Illustrator, Corel and others... The goal of the work is to demonstrate aesthetic sense and technical ability. The work is submitted in electronic form on a presentation DVD with other works.
  4. 3D self-portrait. Artistically stylized 3D model - self-portrait, realized in any 3D program. Must be supplied in "obj" format with textures, maximum size 300,000 polygons and 4000 pixels.
  5.  Video business card. For a maximum of 2 minutes, the listener will talk about his motivations to study visual effects at the FTF VŠMU through a montage of his previous works and a personal audio narration through a video film. In the video business card, the creative component can also be judged - tempo-rhythmic, technical, aesthetic and informational (students can sell their preschool activities in the field of their interests, it can also include a very brief showreel). The video recording is in common format: "mp4" or "mov".
  6. Portfolio in electronic form. The applicant must demonstrate his interest in the chosen field of study with his own work (e.g. 3D, 2D works, video films, free photos, websites, etc.). He hierarchies them according to the importance he attaches to them in order from the most important to the least important.
  7. Explanation. The applicant submits a description and explanation of their free work (Arial, 12, "doc").
  8. Own photo portrait. It is in "jpg" format, the photo is in color and captures the applicant's face. (Photo has above allwhile the informational character is not related to talent assessment.)

The first practical assignment "Colour versions of a photographic image" is also submitted in print form with the longer side up to 30 cm, minimum 18 cm. Free photos (not an album) must be composed wide to maintain the principles of the 16:9 film format. On the back, they are marked with the name of the author, the name of the photo series and the serial number of the shot. The print version of the color versions can be taken over by the applicant only after the end of the admission procedure.
The explanation is printed in one copy, it must be written on a computer (Word) in a reasonable extent and logical form (Arial, 12, "doc") and must be marked with the name and address of the listener.
The printed version of the explanation (1) is part of the envelope sent, which also contains the DVD (2) and the printed version of the 1st assignment: Color versions of the photographic image (3).
The listener sends the explanation also in electronic form by e-mail to the address: vizualneefekty@gmail.com
An explication is indicated by a name in the format:
AVFX_2015_explikacia_Surname.doc.
After receiving the e-mail with the explanation sent by Atelier VFX, the applicant will receive in the return e-mail the access password to his account on the VŠMU server, where he will send the electronic content of the sent DVD to the school server via the FTP protocol in an unchanged structure. The program for sending electronic data can be, among others, e.g. FileZilla.
 
Recruitment interviews
The admissions committee assesses the level of talent for the chosen field of study on the basis of submitted works and works created during the entrance exams.
Entrance exams are two-round. They consist of implementation of school assignments and defense of completed works:

1.   round - implementation of school assignments (1st day):

1.1.              The general-cultural test determines the educational level of the applicant, his outlook in art and especially in audiovisual culture, basic orientation in film and television technology, as well as general cultural outlook and primary knowledge in the field of culture and art.

1.2.              A visual test focused on memory and psychological-analytical abilities.

1.3.              The VFX test is a professional test in the field of visual effects.

1.4.              Implementation 1. practicalassignment as a homework assignment completed in the homework environment of the recommended SW.

1.5.              Realization of the 2nd practical assignment as a homework assignment made in the homework environment recommended by SW. A prerequisite for the implementation of the tasks is an own or borrowed laptop with software, which the applicant used for homework, his own camera and a USB stick. (The school does not lend computers, laptops or cameras.)

2.   round - defense (2nd day):

2.1.              Defense of submitted homework and school work. The 8-12 most successful applicants will have the opportunity to defend their work in an oral interview after evaluating the results of their homework, 1. rounds of schoolwork and tests.

 
Entrance exams will be held on   19 and 20 February 2015 
According to the Study and Examination Regulations of the FTF of the VŠMU, it is not possible to take the entrance exam in a different - alternative date.  The estimated number of accepted applicants is 5.
Acceptance of applicants who have not yet completed the matriculation exam is conditional on their completion by the day of enrollment at the latest.

They are accepted with date of dispatch (postmark) no later than  5. December 2014 (send to the address FTF VŠMU, Study Department, Svoradova 2, 813 01 Bratislava)
APPLICATIONS  must be properly filled out, confirmed by a doctor. In the application, the desired high school code and the code of the field of study must be indicated.
 
ATTACHMENTS: slip (confirmation) of payment of the fee, CV, certified copy of graduation certificate. Annual report cards can be certified copies, or a transcript of grades for completed years in high school is enough - it must be confirmed by the school.
 
The INVITATION for the entrance exams will be delivered to you no later than 2 weeks before the date of the entrance exams.
